4. Hands In The Dye Pot (Angela Possak)
Materials fee: $60, includes:
- 100% natural dorr wool
- Handouts on dyeing wool
- Instructions pertaining to the dyeing process
- Prochem dyes
- Wetting agent
- Protective gloves and masks
- Use of pots, measuring spoons, dye recipes
- Wool preparation
Bring to class:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
5. Arashi, Point of Departure (Kris Abshire)
Materials fee: $30, includes:
- instruction sheets
- resource references
- bibliography and samples
- all dyes
- silk fabrics
- metals, beads, handmade papers
- colour wheel and other class materials
- Additionally, each student will receive arashi pole and a pre-measured "colour wheel dye kit" to take home
Bring to class:
- 1 roll plastic wrap
- 6 - gallon size zip closure plastic bags
- Rubber gloves
- Apron
- One 4-5 quart plastic container (I use the VersaTainer - from the paint department - inexpensive)
- One measuring cup - 1 or 2 cup - that also has *metric* measuring increments (*not* from your kitchen)
- 1 roll of 2" wide masking tape (the blue, "removable"type works really well)
- 6 clear plastic pint sized containers (like the kind used at the deli - medium size)
- 6 - 1" foam brushes (the cheap kind from hardware or craft stores)
- 1 inexpensive synthetic art brush, approx. #6 in size
- 1 common dust mask
- Scissors (not your best fabric shears)
- Three-ring binder for notes and handouts
- Pen/pencil & eraser
- Indelible marker
- Rotary cutter with regular and "pinking" blades (if you have them)
- Small self-healing cutting mat (if you have one)
- Scraps of fabrics - velveteens or similar weight/strength - in colours you like (or have dyed...)
- Strong "carpet thread" - that you cannot easily break
- Ruler - 12" minimum (regular, or "quilter's")
- Photographs, images depicting colour themes appealing to you
- Spool of coordinating thread
6. Chroma Rhumba (Kris Abshire)
Materials fee: $50, includes:
- Silk and silk/wool fabrics
- Silk and silk/wool yarns
- Dyes used in class
- Basic Colour Wheel
- Personal, pre-measured dye kit for each student
- Instructive handout, including bibliography and resource references
Bring to class:
- Roll of paper towels
- 12 ea. 1" bristle brushes (cheap, wooden type)
- 12 *clear* plastic pint size containers w/lids (deli issue is perfect)
- 1ea. 2 qt. plastic container for soaking fabric/fibres
- Paper towels
- Rubber gloves
- 1 box gallon size plastic zip-loc bags
- 1 box pint size plastic zip-loc bags
- Dust mask
- Permanent marker - fine point
- Writing pen
- Stapler w/extra staples
- 1 roll double stick tape
- 2ea. 6" metal rings (available in bead/craft stores)
- 2ea. 8" metal rings (available in bead/craft stores)
- 1 pkg. small string tags (blank white paper tags on string loops - from office supply store)
- 2" three-ring binder
- 30 sheets heavy *white* paper - (construction paper weight)
- Single hole punch 1/4" (6cm) or slightly larger
- Numerous photos and/or color images in various colourways for study/duplication beyond the colour wheel
