Materials fee: $0
- Handouts
Bring to class:
There is a choice between two projects…
1. Socks:
- 2 balls (50 gm) sock yarn, gauge 28 – 30 sts/4 inches, contrasting colours, not too dark. One of the balls could be self-striping or variegated.
- Set of 2.5 or 3 mm double pointed needles.
2. Cuffs for your wrists (a.k.a. wristers or pulse warmers):
- 2 balls (50 gm) sock or fingering yarn. Could be leftover bits at least 15 metres each colour. One yarn could be self-striping or variegated.
- Set of 3 mm double pointed needles.
Your usual knitting kit… scissors, measuring tape, needle gauge, stitch markers, stitch holders, small and large crochet hooks, bodkin
Homework:
For socks: with either colour, cast on 60 stitches with a long tail cast-on. Join in a circle. K2 p2 or k1p1 rib for at least 1 inch. Decrease to 45 stitches by *k2, k2tog* around. Leave on needles with yarn attached.
For wristers: with either colour, cast on 40 stitches with a long tail cast-on. Join in a circle. K2p2 or k1p1 rib for at least an inch. Decrease to 30 stitches by *k2,k2tog* around. Leave on needles with yarn attached.
Note: if you are new to double pointed needles or a fairly new knitter, the wrister option is probably best.

20. Free Form Knitting (Janet Armstrong)
Materials fee: $5, includes:
- small amounts of yarn of many colours to get started with your projects
- handouts
Bring to class:
- Bring scraps and balls of yarn in lots of colours, fibres, textures, and weights/sizes from your stash. Bring yarns suitable for 6mm needles or finer (e.g. Aran weight or finer) because bulky and chunky yarns are more difficult to work with.
- Bring yarns you want to use yourself as well as those (if any) you are willing to share with the group. This is an opportunity to reduce your stash and use yarns you may not have experienced before.
- needles and crochet hooks: bring a selection of needles and crochet hooks in whatever sizes you have between 2mm to 6mm.
- Any kind of needle will do but double pointed needles work best.
- your usual knitting kit (small scissors, 2 darning needles (blunt and sharp), crochet hook (any size in the 3 mm to 6 mm range), tape measure, needle gauge, a few safety pins, pen, pencil.)
