7. Bobbin Lace for Beginners (Sharon Wickstrom)
Materials fee: $6.50, includes:
- All patterns
- Pricking papers
- Linen threads
- Handouts
- The use of lace bobbins during the workshop
Bring to class:
- Small pair of thread scissors
- A pin cushion with 2 dozen stickpins - glass or plastic heads
- Or finer appliqué pins if you have them
- Pencil and paper
8. Stumpwork Embroidery—Butterfly & Berries (Deanna Bertelsen)
Materials fee: $50, includes:
- Full instruction manual, including full size coloured scans
- 11" x 11" dupioni silk background fabric
- 11" x 11" cotton muslin backing
- Plastic mask
- D.M.C. tapestry cotton ( 1 m.) (raised stem band)
- D.M.C. perle cotton, black for bug body
- Fused organza slip
- Brass beading wire (1 m. For butterfly wings)
- #60367 mill hill beads for berries
- #40374 mill hill "eye" beads for butterfly
- Gold thread for spider and web
- #10 crewel needles
- Large eyed crewel or darning needle for plunging wires and fibres
- D.M.C. cottons:
- 610, 611, 612 for stems
- 310, 3855 for butterfly
- 3011, 3012, 3013 for leaves
- 963, white for blossom
- 815 to attach berries
Bring to class:
- Standard sewing kit - containing scissors, needles, pins, thimble
- Small clean wire cutter (don't buy one, we'll share)
- Small tapestry needle (#26 or #28)
- 7.5" Hardwicke Manor hoop (or similar deep, screw adjusted hoop that will not slip during the stitching process), with the inner hoop wrapped in bias tape that has been pressed open and applied.
- Hand quilters hoops also work well if you have one the right size.
- Plastic hoops just won't do for this process.
- Good, sharp small scissors
- Magnification and light are recommended, the work is very fine (1 strand at all times)
- 4" bamboo hoop.
- Pencil, pen and notebook (if you wish to take notes)
- Pigma pen (.005) or a very hard pencil (h)
- Sewing thread (beige)
- Tell your needlework shop that the hoops are available through access commodities, or contact me about obtaining one for you. Please allow a few weeks for my supplier to bring one in for you to purchase.
9. Embellishing Quilts & Stitch Work with Beads (Eileen Neill)
Materials fee: $10, includes:
- Detailed handout
- Three colours of seed beads
- Assorted fancy pressed glass beads
- 2 sizes of beading needles
- Beading thread
- Small quilt square to sew beads on
- Timtex for brooch base
- Feature bead for brooch
Bring to class:
- Any assorted beads or found objects you would like to use
- Small pair of scissors
- Thimble if you use one
- Small table lamp
