This workshop is a brief introduction to the various techniques used in making wool felt. You will take the same wool fibres used for spinning wool yarn, but treat them quite differently, to produce a solid fabric which can be cut without ravelling, developed into seamless 3-D objects or sculpted. You will start with the simplest soap and water techniques, and progress to your first mini-sculpture using a popular new process called needle felting. Great fun! Your workshop kit includes all the fibres you will be using, and use of tools and materials to learn the various techniques of handmade felting.

It's all the rage! Whether you sew, knit, wet felt, spin, weave, embroider, bead, quilt, or surface design, learn the possibilities of incorporating machine needle felted embellishment into your work. Use a machine to felt silk, wool, cotton fabric, yarns, and rovings. Barbed needles on the machine interlock the base fabric and the design fibre together. The machine does the labour. You do the creative play. Take home three small giftables and a completed larger project. The class will be held at Carola's Quilt Shop. Please check in at the registration desk before proceeding to the shop, which is close to the school.
