Calanoa Amazonas
This fibre arts workshop in the Amazon offers a unique opportunity to explore the richness and variety of traditional Amazonian indigenous fibre materials and techniques and to engage in creative dialogue with aboriginal master weavers. The workshops are hosted by Gibsons based artists, Marlene and Diego Samper and the Calanoa Amazon Project, a sustainable development in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Located at the borders of Brazil, Colombia and Peru, Calanoa's lodging facilities are themselves a great example of fibre use in sustainable tropical architecture. Applications are open for the winter season — January-March 2011. Samples of utilitarian and ritual artifacts from various communities will be shown and sold in the Merchant Mall. Eileen's Studio
Embellish it with beads. I carry a wide variety of pressed glass beads in various shapes — flowers, leaves, insects, stars and hearts — in sizes suitable for embellishment on quilts, embroidery and clothing. Plus a wide selection of seed beads in more than 60 colours. I also carry beading needles, thread, jewellery findings and both metal and ceramic charms.
