Information on Exhibit Entry Fees
We have received some concerns regarding Exhibit Entry Fees.
In September 2009, the volunteer board of the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival anticipated the probable effects of the economic downturn on the usual funding sources for the festival. We were denied the B.C. Gaming Grant of $15,000.00 and a federal grant for the arts of $10,000.00 for 2010.
Entry fees
Extensive research of similar festivals across Canada indicated all charged entry fees for the exhibits, ranging from $25.00 to $60.00 per item.
Based on this information, the Board adopted the lowest entry fee of $25.00 for the first item and only $10.00 for each additional item up to a
maximum of five items.
This was less harsh than a flat fee of $25.00 per item.
This is the first year it has been found necessary to request an entry fee to defray the cost of the exhibition.
Note: If there are 100 exhibits entered at $25.00 each, the $2500.00 generated will still not cover the full cost of mounting a juried and judged exhibition.
Commissions
Again, the commission rate of 20% for 2010 is half the lowest rate (40%) charged at other festivals.
We understand the concerns expressed, but trust that with the above facts it will be appreciated that this decision was made only after considerable research, discussion and focus on the sustainability of the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival.
We hope to see you at the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival — August 19, 20 and 21. Should you have any other questions do not hesitate to contact us.
